Thank you to all my supporters

When I said I wanted to visit every one of North Carolina's 100 counties, talking to the citizens of this great state and finding out what they wanted in a governor, I was told that was not the way to run a statewide campaign. I was told it couldn't be done, but I decided that was the only way I would run for governor. With the help of incredible supporters all over the state, we accomplished something most said was impossible. Although we fell short in the end, I wouldn't do it any other way. Thank you, every one, for the amazing work you have done over the past year. I have had confirmed what I always knew -- that the most valuable resource of the state is her hardworking, God fearing, family oriented people. I appreciate all your time and effort on behalf of the campaign. Please stay involved in the process because working together we really can make a difference in the lives of the people of North Carolina. I have pledged my full support to Pat McCrory to do whatever is in my power to help elect a Republican governor in November to change the culture in Raleigh and fix our broken government.

It saddened me to find that you did not win the primary, but with the same character and integrity that brought me to the decision to vote for you, you graciously bowed out and vowed to help your fellow Republican win the general election.

I heard this morning on the radio that you were going to depart the state senate. PLEASE let me encourage you to reconsider. If all the "good guys" leave, who will speak for us? Hopefully, our next governor will be a Republican (more importantly, a conservative) and he will need your support as well.

I hope this is only the beginning for you...that in a few years you'll run again for governor, having made yourself known to more and more North Carolinians. The book was a BRILLIANT idea. You are the kind of person we need to run this state AND this country.

Thanks again for your great effort and sacrifice in service to "we the people"

God Bless,

I too am sorry to see you fall short in this campaign.
Your support of Mr. McCrory will be invaluable to his success.
I also hope you will reconsider leaving the Senate. I voted for you to be there to safeguard and speak for my family and I in a way that we can not. I appreciate what you have done for the State of North Carolina and for taking a stand that has represented so many of us. I of course respect your final decision and wish you and your family well.

Fred,
I have no regret in my support for you.
I believe our platform was correct and as you said, I would do
the same again.
The Democrats just scare me to death.
Good Luck to you,
Harry

Fred,

I really think NC will miss out on a good Governor in Fred Smith. But I know your heart will continue to support and work for NC. Fred, it was a well fought, grass roots effort. One that was the beginning of a new day in NC. Not the end.

You ran a great campaign, it is so hard to get good name recognition. I guess Charlotte provides that easier than other parts of the state. I hope that you will continue to lead in government, we desperately need good conservative leadership. The future holds big challenges that a liberal philosophy will not be successful in dealing with. Best wishes to you and your family.

Freddie,

I am very sorry you did not receive the nomination. I was praying that you would as we need fine, Christian men in leadership of the state and the country. Please reconsider continuing in the state senate as I am sure NC needs your leadership.

Dear Senator Smith,
Our prayer is that you will continue in your efforts for political change. Thank you for sending us your book. It created a sense of partnership with a strong leader wanting "To Do The Right Thing".
Reading the story of your triumph over adversity is both inspiring and encouraging. Your humility is enduring. The example of your "hands on" work ethic; your adaptation of "Good to Great" philosophy; your method of involving others "to make good decisions"; and your ability to build sense of ownership among employees, are characteristics we need in our government leaders. The book generates the desire to "Want to be On The Team". We, the citizens of the United States, need leaders who understand the meaning of "A Little Extra Effort". We need government officals with deep spiritual character and an "understanding of servant leadership". And we, as Americans, we must all humble ourselves in service to God, to our country and to our fellow man. We believe that when an individual comes to understand the true meaning of "servant", that they, themselves, shall gracefully become a servant-leader.
With your business experience, your "team" style leadership, your undeniable faith in God, and with "A LITTLE EXTRA EFFORT" we can "Do the Right Thing" together. Moving forward, we must get your message out, in front all people, all ages! Starting at birth, we can be lead "With A Little Extra Effort, To Do the Right Thing"! Please keep us informed regarding your political views and plans for our future. Lead us and we will serve.
Respectfully yours,

Dear Senator Smith:

It is my hope that you will continue your efforts to change the broken government in North Carolina. We need conservative leaders like you in our state government so that changes can be made and wounds can be healed.

What an honor it has been to work on the campaign of such a kindhearted individual. From the receptions, rallies, and placing signs -- it's all been great.

Thanks for your conservative leadership!
