Lifelong Democrat switches registration to vote for Fred Smith

Ralph El Ramey, former mayor of Wilson and lifelong Democrat, changed his party registration Friday to unaffiliated.  He said he made the change so that he could vote for the best candidate. 

 "Due to the candidates my party has offered in the past few election cycles, and at this critical time in our country and state, I changed my registration so I could vote in the primary for the candidate of my choice. I've heard Fred Smith speak on three separate occasions and he appears to me to be the candidate this state needs at this time.  I'll be voting for Fred Smith on May 6^th."
